Senate-confirmed governor appointees would face fundraising limits
Governor-nominated or appointed workers in Senate-confirmed paid posts could not join candidate fundraisers or solicit campaign donations, but could still vote, speak, and give personally.
1
What it does
Covered appointees would be barred from taking part in candidate fundraisers or asking anyone for campaign donations. They could still share political views, donate personally, and vote.
Argument forKeeping covered appointees away from fundraisers and donation requests could reduce the appearance that political giving affects state contracts.
Argument againstCovered appointees could have fewer ways to support candidates because they could not attend fundraisers or ask anyone for campaign donations.
More detail
Covered workers would be barred from organizing, attending, or hosting candidate fundraisers, and from directly or indirectly asking anyone for campaign donations. This covers executive branch employees whom the governor nominates or appoints to paid positions requiring Senate confirmation. They could still share political views, make personal political donations, and vote. The text says the measure would take effect upon approval.
