1
What it does
The law lists age-based prices for lifetime hunting, fishing, and trapping certificates. They cost 25 times the matching annual fee for ages one day through one year, 35 times for ages two through 50, and 20 times for ages 51 or older.
Argument forPeople who hunt, fish, or trap often could pay once for a lifetime certificate instead of buying the matching license each year.
Argument againstThe large upfront price could be hard for some families to pay, especially for certificates priced at 25 or 35 times the matching annual license fee.
More detail
The law sets lifetime certificate prices at 25, 35, or 20 times the matching annual license fee, depending on age. The prices apply to combined hunting and fishing, hunting-only, fishing-only, and trapping certificates: 25 times the matching fee for ages one day through one year, 35 times for ages two through 50, and 20 times for ages 51 or older. Applicants must qualify as Idaho residents or have resident license privileges. For applicants under age five, a legal guardian must have been an Idaho resident for at least five years immediately before the application. The act takes effect July 1, 2026.
