Idaho law directs Fish and Game to plan and open a public shooting complex by 2040, keep the current Kootenai County range open until then, and report yearly.
Fish and Game must plan and open a public shotgun sports complex next to Farragut State Park, with shooting fields and facilities for visitors. Extra money requires legislative approval.
The Kootenai County range must stay open until the new complex opens. Fish and Game must run it if an operator is unavailable.
Each year, Fish and Game must report to legislative committees on its actions to acquire or lease land and plan the properties for the target range projects.
The Fish and Game Commission must plan a public shotgun sports complex, and Fish and Game must coordinate its development and opening. The complex must be on Idaho Fish and Game land next to Farragut State Park. It must include trap and skeet fields, sporting clay stations, a five-stand station, and public facilities. The commission must use available Pittman-Robertson funds and money previously appropriated for the project. It may seek additional money from the legislature if those funds are not enough. The commission must submit its plan for legislative committee review during the 2027 session and review it at least every five years. The complex must open by December 31, 2040.
The Department of Fish and Game must keep the Kootenai County skeet and trap range operating while it leases the land before the new complex opens. This covers the existing range on Kootenai County land leased by the department. The department must manage the range if it cannot find an operator or the operator stops running it. It must continue the lease until the new complex opens; it may end or not renew the lease only when the complex has opened. These duties continue until the new complex opens to the public.
The Department of Fish and Game must send a yearly written report to three legislative committees. The report covers actions to acquire, lease, or plan the properties described in this law. The department must report each year.
