Idaho directs part of lower-strength beer tax money to state police
Idaho assigns police 33% of tax collections from beer with up to 5% alcohol after refunds, dividing that share between Project Choice and alcohol enforcement.
1
What it does
After refunds, 33% of collections from taxes on beer with up to 5% alcohol goes to Idaho State Police. At least 60% of that share funds Project Choice; up to 40% goes toward alcohol enforcement, with spending requiring lawmakers’ approval.
Argument forBeer tax money could help state police enforce alcohol laws once lawmakers approve spending from the alcohol beverage control fund.
Argument againstSetting aside at least 60% of the police share for Project Choice could limit how much police can use for alcohol enforcement.
