1
What it does
Hawaii sets aside up to $200,000 for domestic violence organizations to train and advise child welfare staff investigating related abuse or neglect reports statewide during fiscal year 2026–2027.
Argument forSpecialized training and advice could help child welfare staff respond to abuse or neglect reports involving domestic violence.
Argument againstBecause the funding is limited to fiscal year 2026–2027, staff may have less access to contracted training and advice after that year.
More detail
The Department of Human Services spends the appropriation on contracts for domestic violence training and consultation. The training and consultation are for Child Welfare Services Branch staff investigating abuse or neglect reports involving domestic violence, statewide. The appropriation is up to $200,000 for fiscal year 2026–2027. Contractors must specialize in domestic violence. The law took effect July 1, 2026. The appropriation is for fiscal year 2026–2027.
