D.C.'s temporary act kept replacement parts for existing fossil fuel space and water heaters outside its installation limit and was set to expire in May 2025.
The installation limit did not cover replacement parts for existing space or water heaters that burn fossil fuels on site. The emergency act applied as of January 1, 2025, and was set to expire May 4, 2025.
The act excluded replacement heater parts from the restriction on installing fossil fuel heating systems. It covers existing space and water heaters that burn natural gas, oil, or another fossil fuel at the system's site. The exception covers replacement of components, not installation of an entire new system. The act applied as of January 1, 2025, and was set to expire May 4, 2025.
