Proposal would let veteran dependents use state aid alongside other aid
The proposal would let eligible dependents of veterans killed during service or totally disabled receive state education benefits even while entitled to certain federal or other government aid.
1
What it does
The proposal would let eligible dependents of veterans killed during service or totally disabled receive state education benefits while entitled to certain federal benefits or duplicate aid from another government source.
Argument forDependents could use state education benefits even when entitled to certain federal or other government aid, helping them pay for education.
Argument againstDependents might receive state aid while entitled to federal or other government aid, which could result in overlapping support for education costs.
More detail
The proposal would remove the rule that blocks certain dependents from receiving state education benefits while entitled to specified federal benefits or duplicate government aid. Existing law covers dependents of veterans killed during military service or totally disabled, including the spouse of a totally disabled veteran. The benefits apply to dependents covered by existing law.
