If enacted, certain military and veterans-related groups would qualify for sales and use tax exemptions on purchases made on or after October 1, 2026. They must prove eligibility and use purchases only for their purposes.
Connecticut would exempt eligible purchases by certain military and veterans-related organizations from sales and use taxes. Covered groups must be federally tax-exempt and recognized under Section 501(c)(19), the federal tax category for these military and veterans-related organizations. At purchase, the group would need to show its federal approval letter and a certificate confirming that approval remains valid and purchases serve only its purposes. An unrevoked state exemption permit issued before July 1, 1995, plus the required certificate could serve instead. The group would owe the tax if purchases were used for other purposes. The proposal sets October 1, 2026, as its effective date and would apply to sales occurring on or after that date.
