New Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles members receive six-year terms beginning March 1. Members serving on October 1, 2026, have terms ending on the last day of February following the sixth year of their term. Members serve until their replacements are appointed and qualified. Someone appointed to fill an unfinished term must leave office when that term expires. The board's term rules took effect October 1, 2026.
People serving community corrections sentences must immediately enter state prison when a later conviction in another case brings a prison sentence. These rules cover people serving sentences in a community punishment and corrections program who are later sentenced to prison in the Alabama Department of Corrections. A person may return to the community program after completing the prison sentence unless the court orders otherwise or the person becomes ineligible under the law. These rules took effect immediately upon enactment. The community sentence pauses while the person serves the later prison sentence, which must be completed before return.
