D.C. homeowners age 65 or older who meet income limits would count other resident owners’ shares toward the 50% ownership requirement for property tax relief.
Homeowners age 65 or older who meet income limits would qualify under the ownership rule if they and other owners living there together own at least half the home.
Resident owners would be allowed to combine their shares to meet the ownership requirement for senior property tax relief. The rule covers homeowners age 65 or older; other resident owners need not be seniors. The senior must meet the household income limit. The combined shares must belong to people living in the home and must include the senior’s share. The rule would take effect after mayoral approval or a Council veto override and a 30-day congressional review period.
