West Virginia physicians renewing medical or osteopathic licenses must include nutrition education in their continuing education, with different hour requirements for each license.
Doctors renewing medical or osteopathic licenses must include nutrition education in their required continuing education. Medical licensees need 50 hours every two years; osteopathic licensees need 32 hours.
The law requires nutrition education as part of continuing education for license renewal. This applies to physicians renewing medical licenses and osteopathic physicians and surgeons renewing osteopathic licenses. The printed nutrition requirement does not cover podiatric education. For medical licenses, the education must meet the board’s standards. For osteopathic licenses, the refresher course must be approved by the American Osteopathic Association, and at least half of the 32 hours must be category (1). The law took effect June 12, 2026. The requirements apply when a license is renewed.
