Foster children waiting for a family placement continue learning online, with state training for their temporary caregivers and instruction starting within three days.
Foster children awaiting placement with a foster family continue learning online. Their temporary caregivers receive state training, and instruction must begin within three days.
Foster children awaiting placement must continue their education through virtual learning. This applies while a foster child awaits placement with a foster family. The person, group, or organization caring for the child temporarily receives training on how the child can log in and take enrolled courses. The child’s last school county provides virtual learning when possible; otherwise, the county where the child is staying does so. If neither county can provide virtual learning, the child uses a public charter virtual school or the closest county able to provide it. The Department of Education trains the temporary caregiver at department expense. Virtual instruction must begin no more than three days after the child enters the temporary caregiver’s care. When the child joins a foster family, the child’s virtual learning and enrollment information goes to the family and the new school county.
