Vermont board may license internationally trained physicians starting in 2028
State health officials must report on a Vermont licensing pathway by January 2027, and the medical board may issue pathway-based licenses starting in 2028.
1
What it does
The Department of Health and the Board of Medical Practice must report on a licensing pathway for internationally trained physicians, including other states’ approaches and the Department’s Vermont proposal.
Beginning in 2028, the Board may issue provisional licenses for practice at certain Vermont health care facilities. Physicians who complete the pathway may receive full licenses under Board rules.
Argument forThe pathway could give internationally trained physicians a route to practice in Vermont and seek full licenses after completing it.
Argument againstProvisional licenses could limit where physicians may practice while they complete the pathway, since they apply only at certain health care facilities.
