Tennessee wastewater utilities must connect a property when its owner asks and a nearby sewer line meets the law’s location or access rules.
When a property owner requests wastewater service, the utility must provide a connection if an existing sewer line is on or next to the property and meets the law’s location or access rules.
A utility system that provides wastewater service must provide a connection when a real property owner requests one and a listed sewer-line condition is met. This applies to utility systems that provide wastewater service and owners of real property meeting one of the listed sewer-line conditions. An existing gravity sewer line must be on or next to the property within a street right-of-way or public access or utility easement, or an existing sewer force main must be on or next to the property and accessible using technology designed for that use. The law took effect upon becoming law.
