If voters approve and state aid conditions are met, the district may borrow up to $116 million for a three-town elementary school and Switch Road Campus improvements.
The main provisions take effect only if a majority of district voters who vote on the question approve the act.
The Chariho Regional School District may issue bonds and notes to pay for the project. The project is an elementary school serving Charlestown, Richmond, and Hopkinton, plus improvements at the Switch Road Campus. The district must receive state education department confirmation that the facilities are approved for school housing aid and that aid will cover at least 61% of debt service for eligible costs when bonds or notes are issued. The act’s main provisions take effect only if a majority of district voters who vote on the question approve it. The bond authority may be ended by the district committee and otherwise ends seven years after the act takes effect.
Voters decide whether the act’s main provisions take effect. The question is submitted to voters in Charlestown, Richmond, and Hopkinton. A majority of electors in the regional school district who vote on the question must approve the act. The vote is scheduled for November 3, 2026. The election and ballot provisions took effect when the act passed.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
