Rhode Island law provides a Hockey Hall of Fame plate for drivers who meet the prepaid order requirement and pay added fees at issuance and renewal.
Rhode Island drivers may use a special plate showing the Hockey Hall of Fame, once enough people place prepaid orders and the design receives state police approval.
A Hall of Fame plate adds $40 when first issued and $10 at each later renewal; the Hall’s share must benefit Rhode Island charities.
The motor vehicles administrator makes special registration plates available for the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame. The plates are for vehicles registered with the Hall of Fame design. They replace the vehicle’s regular plates, which must be returned to the motor vehicles division. The plates cannot be issued until the required minimum prepaid orders are met and the paperwork is submitted. The Hall of Fame designs the plates with the motor vehicles division, and state police must approve the design. The law takes effect upon passage.
The plates have added issuance and renewal surcharges, with set shares going to the state and the Hall of Fame. The surcharges apply to Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame plates, in addition to the regular registration fee. The $40 issuance surcharge is added to the regular registration fee; $20 goes to the state general fund and $20 to the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame must use Rhode Island-sourced funds for Rhode Island-based charities and submit an annual accounting before funds are distributed. Each later renewal has a $10 surcharge for the Hall of Fame, and early cancellation brings no refund. The law takes effect upon passage.
