School safety coordinators would consider silent panic alarms when reviewing school policies. This would not require schools to install an alarm.
A school safety and security coordinator would consider implementing a panic alarm system. The system would send a silent signal after someone manually activates a device, such as a button or an app, for a life-threatening or emergency situation requiring a response from local law enforcement. If the school building is in a municipality without its own police department, the signal is intended for a location designated by the Pennsylvania State Police commissioner. The coordinator would consider the system while reviewing the school entity’s policies and procedures. If enacted, the act would take effect 60 days later.
