If enacted, the department would let people renewing online contribute $5 to the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for communication access.
People renewing a driver’s license, ID card, or vehicle registration online could add an optional $5 contribution for communication access for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
The department would offer an optional $5 contribution during each listed online renewal. The option would appear when a person renews a driver’s license, ID card, or vehicle registration online through the department’s public website. A person may make one contribution for each driver’s license or ID card renewal and one for each vehicle registration renewal. The Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing must use contributions only for communication access for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. The office must repay the Motor License Fund for the department’s actual costs of running the program. The act would take effect 60 days after enactment. The department would have up to one year after the contribution section takes effect to offer the option.
