This failed measure would have capped required training at 200 hours over five years for classroom teachers with less than five years of recent experience.
Classroom teachers with less than five years of recent experience would have a 200-hour maximum for required professional development during any five-year period.
School districts would be limited to requiring no more than 200 hours of professional development or training from covered classroom teachers during any five-year period. The limit would apply to classroom teachers with less than five years of full-time classroom teaching experience during the previous ten years. The hours could include local, state, or federal professional development or training. Failure to meet other district training requirements could still support contract nonrenewal or denial of salary increases. The bill does not establish a new training benefit or payment for teachers. The bill states a July 1, 2026, effective date and also says the emergency measure would take effect after passage and approval.
