Licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants apply each year to renew their licenses and pay the Board’s fee. This applies to every licensed physical therapist and physical therapist assistant in North Carolina. The Board may decline renewal if a licensee has not met required continuing education or other competence measures. The renewal window begins November 1 each year. If January 31 is not a business day, the deadline is the next business day; this schedule takes effect October 1, 2026.
The Board may remove one of its members for a listed reason. This applies to members of the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Reasons include losing required qualifications, missing three meetings in a row without just cause, violating the law or Board rules, or other listed misconduct. For immoral, dishonorable, unprofessional, or unethical conduct, the Board must also find that the conduct compromised the Board’s integrity.
