With local approval, an approved Haverstraw assessing unit would cap increases in each property class’s tax share for the 2026–2027 assessment rolls.
With local approval, an approved Haverstraw assessing unit would limit each property class’s tax share to no more than one percent above its share from the prior year.
Limits how much a property class’s current tax share can rise from the prior year. This applies to an approved assessing unit in the town of Haverstraw, Rockland County. The limit applies only if the approved assessing unit has passed a local law, ordinance, or resolution providing for it. If the cap changes the calculated shares, the unit’s legislative body must adjust one class’s share so the shares add up to 100 percent. The rule applies to current base proportions determined using the assessing unit’s 2026–2027 assessment rolls. The act takes effect immediately.
