Eligible developers in New Jersey’s Economic Redevelopment and Growth Grant program now have until June 30, 2032, to submit temporary approval to use their buildings.
Certain housing and mixed-use parking projects in designated redevelopment areas with over 125,000 residents get until June 30, 2032, to submit temporary occupancy approval. Eight counties are excluded, and earlier eligibility requirements still apply.
Covered developers get four more years to submit a temporary certificate of occupancy, a document allowing temporary use of a building. Projects must be in Garden State Growth Zones, designated redevelopment areas with over 125,000 residents. Projects in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, and Salem counties are excluded. The developer route requires program approval after May 1, 2017, and a municipal support letter identifying up to six projects submitted before July 1, 2018. The parking-only category required applications before July 1, 2019. The category covering housing and parking required applications before December 31, 2021. The municipal redeveloper route covers mixed-use parking projects undertaken after July 29, 2022, with a program grant awarded. The law takes effect immediately. It moves the deadline for submitting temporary occupancy approval from June 30, 2028, to June 30, 2032.
