If federal approvals and funding are secured, Medicaid would cover specified fertility drugs and related visits and tests for eligible people ages 21 through 44, for up to three treatment cycles in their lifetime.
Medicaid would cover medically necessary ovulation drugs and certain related care. The coverage is for Medicaid beneficiaries ages 21 through 44 who meet the bill's infertility definition. Related care is limited to office visits, certain tests, and care to diagnose the cause of, or monitor treatment for, ovulation problems. Coverage depends on necessary federal approvals and federal funding. Covered drugs include specified oral medicines and other oral ovulation drugs only when federal funding is available for them. The infertility definition must not be used to deny or delay treatment because of a person's relationship status or sexual orientation. The act would take effect on the first day of the twelfth month after enactment.
