For domestic violence, stalking, and related court-order violations, social media platforms would have 72 hours from proper delivery of a search warrant to provide records. Other communications providers would have five business days.
Communications providers would have to provide information requested in covered search warrants. This covers providers doing business in New Jersey and investigations of domestic violence, stalking, or related court-order violations. Applicants would have to flag these rules in their application and mark the warrant’s title and body as requiring an immediate response. The rules would take effect upon enactment. Proper delivery would start the 72-hour deadline for social media platforms and the five-business-day deadline for other providers.
