More detail
A first responder could seek workers’ compensation for diagnosed PTSD tied to the responder’s work. First responders include firefighters, law enforcement officers, county detention center or prison employees, and other authorized people who respond to emergencies professionally. The diagnosis must follow the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and find that the PTSD arose in the course and scope of the responder’s job. Claims remain subject to Montana’s workers’ compensation rules. The bill would apply to claims for PTSD caused by events on or after the act’s effective date.
