The proposed resolution would ask an interim committee to study the state registry. The study would cover how people are added to Montana’s child abuse and neglect registry, how long they remain listed, and how they may seek removal. The committee would monitor the removal process under SB 468 (2025), review notice and hearing procedures, and consider listing periods, record destruction, combined hearings, and access to a lawyer. It would also advise the Department of Public Health and Human Services on registry rules and draft legislation about the registry, including removal from it. The study, including its presentation and review, would have to finish before September 15, 2026. The committee would report its results to the 70th Legislature.
