1
What it does
Districts would calculate basic school funding for grades 6 through 8 together at the middle school rates. This applies only to approved, accredited middle school programs.
Argument forMiddle schools could have more room to offer classes such as career and technical education if grades 6 through 8 are counted at the shared higher rates.
Argument againstSixth graders in programs that do not qualify as approved, accredited middle schools could remain outside the shared higher-rate calculation.
More detail
Districts would calculate school funding for grades 6 through 8 together at the middle school rates. The calculation covers grades 6, 7, and 8 in the district's approved, accredited middle school program. This applies to an approved, accredited middle school program in an elementary or K–12 district. If enacted, the act would take effect on passage and approval and apply to school budgets for fiscal years beginning July 1, 2025.
