Missouri’s tourism division presents a marketing plan to lawmakers before each fund appropriation, and fund money supports only the division’s legal duties.
The state treasurer manages a fund for the state tourism division. The fund holds appropriations and outside contributions, and its money supports the division’s legal duties.
Before each appropriation from the tourism fund, the division presents lawmakers with a marketing plan, including its target markets and any actual or expected returns.
The state treasurer administers the fund, whose money supports the tourism division’s duties. The fund serves the Division of Tourism in the Department of Economic Development. The fund contains money appropriated by the General Assembly, as well as gifts, contributions, grants, and bequests from federal, private, or other sources. Fund money may be used only for duties and functions assigned by law to the tourism division. Money left in the fund at the end of a two-year budget period stays there and is not transferred to the general revenue fund.
Before each appropriation from the fund, the tourism division presents a marketing strategy to committees in both chambers of the General Assembly. The presentations go to the House tourism committee and the Senate economic and workforce development committee, or their successors. The strategy includes target markets, the length of market plans, later strategies, and actual and estimated returns on investment, if any. The presentation must happen before each appropriation from the fund.
