Two school law provisions could not take effect until the next school year after lawmakers fully fund school payments, student transportation aid, and teacher salary grants, and the state assigns that money to districts.
The amendment would keep two school law provisions from taking effect before a funding condition is met. The condition applies to Section 162.192 and one part of Section 162.821. Lawmakers must fully fund the state's main school payments, student transportation aid, and a teacher salary grant program. The education department must assign all three amounts to school districts. The school payment amount is measured before any adjustment to the state's funding target. The earliest start for each provision is the school year immediately after the school year when all three amounts are fully funded and assigned to districts.
