Eligible veterans would exclude up to $225,000 of home value from property tax calculations. A 100% and permanent disability would qualify for up to $450,000, beginning with 2027 assessments.
Property tax calculations would leave out up to $225,000 of qualifying home value, or $450,000 for a total and permanent disability. The amounts apply to qualifying Minnesota primary homes of veterans, family caregivers, and surviving spouses. Veterans must have an honorable discharge and a service-connected disability rating of at least 70%, certified by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The $450,000 amount requires a 100% disability rating that is permanent. A primary family caregiver approved by Veterans Affairs may qualify if the veteran has no Minnesota home classified as a homestead. Surviving spouses must meet the applicable ownership, residence, and eligibility rules. Remarriage ends their eligibility, and moving the exclusion to another home has additional limits. The amounts would apply beginning with assessment year 2027.
