Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, schools would waive graduation credits for eligible students whose parent or guardian submits a signed application.
With a signed parent or guardian application, eligible students could have graduation credits waived so they can take part in an International Baccalaureate program. A school may revoke the waiver if the student is not on track by the start of grade 12.
A district or charter school must waive the graduation credits in subdivision 1 when it finds the student meets the requirements and receives a parent or guardian's signed application. This applies to district and charter school students pursuing an International Baccalaureate diploma or career-related program. The student must be on track by the beginning of grade 11 to meet the requirements of an International Baccalaureate diploma or career-related program. The student must be unable to participate in that program if required to complete a credit being waived. A school may revoke the waiver if the student is not on track at the beginning of grade 12; after revocation, the student must complete the subdivision 1 credit requirements. The section would take effect July 1, 2026, and the waiver would start in the 2026–2027 school year.
