Certified nurse practitioners may sign medical statements for special disability plates and disability tabs, subject to the listed disability and vehicle-use rules.
Certified nurse practitioners may determine whether an individual has a qualifying disability and may sign medical statements for disability placards and free parking stickers. This applies to Michigan-licensed certified nurse practitioners and people applying for disability windshield placards or free parking stickers. The disability must meet one or more listed physical conditions, such as serious limits on walking, certain lung or heart conditions, or reliance on oxygen. Applicants generally must provide a medical statement or certification unless a stated religious-objection or obvious-disability exception applies. The bill does not require new or additional third-party reimbursement or workers' compensation benefits for these services.
Certified nurse practitioners may sign medical statements supporting applications for special disability registration plates and disability tabs. This applies to applications for Michigan special registration plates under section 803d and disability tabs under section 803h. The person must meet one or more listed physical conditions that qualify as a disability. A vehicle transporting a disabled person may receive special plates only when the registered owner lives at the same address as the disabled person and provides the required statement and medical proof. Disability tabs may not be used on the excluded government, nonprofit, commercial, in-transit-repair, or repossession vehicles listed in the section.
