If enacted, Sudbury would let town meeting and voters decide at set intervals whether the senior property tax exemption continues, pauses, or restarts.
Every three years, Sudbury town meeting would vote to extend the senior property tax exemption. A “no” vote would pause it until a later restart vote.
Sudbury voters could pause or restart the exemption at a regular or special election if the select board places the question on the ballot; approved actions would generally take effect after 30 days.
Sudbury town meeting would vote on whether to extend the exemption for another three years. The vote would concern the senior citizen property tax exemption authorized for the town of Sudbury. An affirmative vote would continue the act. A negative vote would pause the act until town meeting later votes to restart it. If the exemption has already paused, the restart question would use the words “restarted and extended.” Town meeting would hold the extension vote every three calendar years unless the act has already been paused.
Sudbury voters could restart or pause the exemption by majority vote at a regular or special election. The election vote would apply to the Sudbury senior citizen property tax exemption, and the select board would have to place the question on the ballot. A pause would have to be followed by a later regular or special election vote to restart the act. The pause or restart would require an affirmative vote by a majority of voters. For sections 1 through 4 and sections 7 and 8, a pause or restart would take effect 30 days after the town's affirmative vote.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
