Starting July 1, 2026, eligible nontenure track faculty at certain Maryland public colleges and universities can bargain collectively in a separate unit.
The law gives certain nontenure track faculty collective bargaining rights and places them in a separate bargaining unit. This covers full-time, part-time, and adjunct employees at University System of Maryland institutions, Morgan State University, and St. Mary’s College of Maryland whose main assignments involve academic work, such as teaching or research. Faculty at fully online institutions are excluded. Faculty whose positions are fully funded through research or service grants or contracts, or through clinical revenue, are excluded. The law takes effect July 1, 2026.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
