Starting January 1, 2027, people enrolling themselves or a dependent during a pregnancy special enrollment may choose when health coverage begins.
People enrolling themselves or a dependent during a pregnancy special enrollment may choose when coverage starts: the first day of the month pregnancy is confirmed or the first day of the month after plan selection. If they do not choose, the carrier must select one of those dates.
The enrollee may choose one of two coverage start dates; if they do not choose, the carrier must select one. This applies to individuals enrolling themselves or a dependent through the Individual Exchange or outside it during the pregnancy special enrollment period. A health care practitioner must confirm the pregnancy. The carrier must select either the first day of the month pregnancy is confirmed or the first day of the month after plan selection if the enrollee does not choose. The 90-day enrollment period begins when a health care practitioner confirms the pregnancy. This rule applies to plans issued, delivered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2027.
