Starting July 1, 2026, Maryland’s teacher standards board replaces a nonpublic school classroom teacher’s seat with two seats for nonpublic special education representatives.
Starting July 1, 2026, the Board no longer includes a certified nonpublic school classroom teacher chosen from the Association of Independent Schools. It includes a licensed special education teacher and an administrator or supervisor chosen from nominees provided by the Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities.
The law removes one Board seat and assigns two seats to representatives of the Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities. The change applies to Maryland’s Professional Standards and Teacher Education Board. The two representatives are one licensed special education teacher currently providing classroom instruction and one administrator or supervisory staff member; each is chosen from nominees provided by the Association. The law takes effect July 1, 2026.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
