School systems must look for problems that affect access for people with disabilities during regular safety reviews of every public school.
Yearly reports must include school facilities that became inaccessible to a student with a disability in a way that could hinder evacuation or emergency response. The reports are confidential, though a General Assembly member may request one.
Each local school system must identify disability access issues in its regular school safety review. The review covers every public school under the local school system’s authority. This requirement takes effect July 1, 2026; the law sets no separate review deadline.
Each local school system must report certain disability access incidents to the Center each year. Each report covers incidents at public school facilities involving a student with a disability. The report must cover only cases where a public school facility became inaccessible to a student with a disability in a way that could impede evacuation or emergency response. The report is confidential, is not a public record, and may not be disclosed, except that a member of the General Assembly may receive it on request. This requirement takes effect July 1, 2026. Each report covers the immediately preceding school year and is due each August 1.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
