The governor must include $1 million for the Maryland Patient Safety Center Fund in each annual budget bill. The fund helps cover part of the state-designated Patient Safety Center’s costs for its patient safety work. The commission that manages the fund may award the center an annual grant, but it is not required to do so. Money from the fund can be spent only as allowed by the state budget. The law took effect July 1, 2026. The yearly budget requirement applies to fiscal year 2027 and every fiscal year thereafter.
