Each assessor may increase annual compensation by 5% per year through 2029. The provision applies to each parish assessor and adds this compensation to other compensation authorized by law. The increase takes effect only if the assessor publishes notice of intent on two separate days in the parish’s official journal; the last notice must appear at least 30 days before the increase. An assessor who assesses property in violation of the R.S. 47:6001 exemption for a taxable year ending after December 31, 2025, cannot receive an increase under this provision. The act takes effect July 1, 2026. It authorizes one increase in each calendar year from 2026 through 2029.
