1
What it does
Louisiana school boards get free passage for covered vehicles on public toll ferries, roads, and bridges. The Greater New Orleans Expressway is excluded, and rules must be adopted first.
Argument forFree passage could reduce toll costs for school boards when their vehicles travel on covered public routes.
Argument againstThe Greater New Orleans Expressway exclusion could leave school boards paying tolls there for vehicles that otherwise qualify for free passage.
More detail
The law provides free passage for covered school board vehicles on public toll ferries, roads, and bridges. It covers vehicles owned or leased and operated by Louisiana school boards on public ferries, roads, and bridges leased out or controlled by the state, a parish, or a municipality. The Greater New Orleans Expressway is excluded. Free passage depends on rules adopted under Subsection C. The act took effect when the governor signed it on June 8, 2026.
