Athlete agents must give athletes written terms for endorsement work, and agents already working in Louisiana must register by August 1, 2026.
Agents representing athletes for endorsement deals must sign a written disclosure before or when representation begins. It must explain the agent’s fees, services, expenses, and other paid people.
Agents must register before contacting athletes. For agent contracts, they also need approval from the relevant players association; a limited exception allows other work after athlete-initiated contact if the agent applies within seven days.
Agents already working in Louisiana must register by August 1, 2026. Those who miss the deadline must stop all athlete-agent work in the state until they register.
Athlete agents representing athletes for endorsement deals must sign a written disclosure with them. This applies when an agent represents or advises an athlete about endorsement deals or related activities, including name, image, and likeness matters. The disclosure must include the agent’s registration, fees and other payments, paid third parties, reimbursable expenses, services, and the agreement’s duration. The agent and athlete must keep the disclosure; the agent must provide it to the state division if requested or subpoenaed. If the agent fails to sign the disclosure, the agent forfeits the right to compensation for the endorsement work. The agent and athlete must sign before or when the agent begins the representation.
Athlete agents must register with the state division before contacting an athlete. This applies to individuals acting as athlete agents in Louisiana. For agent contracts, an agent must first be certified by the relevant professional players association. An unregistered person may act for other purposes only if the athlete or someone acting for the athlete starts the communication and the person applies for registration within seven days. Registration is required before contact, subject to the seven-day application exception for the limited other work described above.
Athlete agents already working in Louisiana must register by August 1, 2026, or stop working in the state. This applies to agents operating in Louisiana on or before the Act’s effective date. Agents who miss the deadline must stop all athlete-agent activity in Louisiana until they register. The deadline is August 1, 2026. The Act takes effect upon the governor’s signature, or under the stated constitutional rules if unsigned or later approved after a veto.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
