If enacted, the measure would require Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet to inspect highway markings six months after painting and repair failed markings within 30 days.
Six months after each highway paint project, the Transportation Cabinet would inspect the markings for federal standards and nighttime visibility.
If markings fail the inspection, the Transportation Cabinet would repair or repaint them within 30 days and check them again.
The Transportation Cabinet would inspect highway pavement markings six months after each marking project or other highway paint application. The requirement covers highway pavement marking projects and other highway paint applications. The inspection must check compliance with Federal Highway Administration rules and standards. The inspection must take place after dark to measure how well the markings reflect light. The check would occur six months after each project or other paint application is completed.
The Transportation Cabinet would repair or repaint markings that fail the required quality check and then perform another check. This applies to highway pavement markings that fail the required inspection. The follow-up inspection must meet the same requirements as the original check, including federal-standard and after-dark visibility inspections. Repairs or repainting would be required within 30 days after a failed check, followed by another quality check under the six-month inspection requirements.
