When people record an Iowa property transfer, at least one buyer, seller, or their agent must submit a signed statement of its value, with exceptions.
People recording most Iowa property transfers must submit a signed statement of the property’s value. Separate statements go to each county for parcels located there.
At least one buyer, seller, or their agent must submit a signed statement of value when presenting a deed or similar document for recording. This applies to documents conveying real property in Iowa. If a document covers parcels in more than one county, a separate statement must be submitted to each county recorder for that county’s parcels. The statement is not required for transfers covered by section 428A.2, subsections 2 through 5, 7 through 13, or 16 through 21. For transfers covered by subsection 6, the statement is required if a federal agency or instrumentality is involved, or if land is acquired for a public purpose through eminent domain, by contract or condemnation. The statement is submitted when the deed or similar document is presented to the county recorder for recording.
