Illinois’s environmental agency determines laboratory certification fee schedules without approval from the Environmental Laboratory Certification Committee. The fee schedules cover laboratories seeking certification to test public water supplies, water pollution, and waste. Fees must reflect actual and expected costs of certification under state and federal programs and the agency’s related costs. State government bodies are exempt. Municipal governments are exempt for certification to test public water supplies. Costs of certifying exempt laboratories must be left out when calculating replacement fee schedules. The law takes effect January 1, 2027.
