By September 1, 2028, and each September 1 afterward, Illinois higher education boards must publish reports on course credits taught by full-time and part-time faculty at public colleges and community colleges.
Argument forPublic reports could help students and families compare how much teaching colleges assign to full-time and part-time faculty.
Argument againstThe yearly reports could require extra staff work to compile teaching totals by college, subject, and faculty employment type.
More detail
The Illinois Board of Higher Education and the state community college board must compile reports and make them public. The higher education board reports on public colleges and universities other than community colleges. The community college board reports on all community colleges. Reports must group course credit totals by college and subject, separating full-time and part-time faculty. Full-time totals must also separate faculty who have tenure or are on the path toward it from faculty who are not eligible for it. The law takes effect January 1, 2027. The first reports are due by September 1, 2028, with reports due every September 1 afterward.
