Hawaii drivers may show digital licenses and insurance cards to officers
Drivers and vehicle owners may show digital cards to officers, who may view only the card shown on the device.
1
What it does
Drivers and vehicle owners may show a mobile driver's license or electronic vehicle insurance card when an officer asks for one. The officer must be able to verify a mobile license.
An officer may view only the digital card shown on a phone, and the person showing it is responsible for any damage to the device.
A person charged with violating this section cannot be convicted if they prove they held a valid license or insurance coverage when arrested.
Argument forDrivers and vehicle owners may be able to show digital cards instead of physical ones when an officer asks for proof of a license or insurance.
Argument againstPeople who show a card on a phone may have to pay for damage to their device, which could make them wary of presenting it.
More detail
