What it does
Jurors and prospective jurors receive $50 for each day they attend court, plus travel payment based on mileage or adult bus fare.
The law sets aside up to $684,385 for the judiciary to carry out its purposes during fiscal year 2026–2027.
Argument forDaily pay and travel money may ease some costs for people who report for jury duty.
Argument againstSetting aside up to $684,385 for these purposes could leave less state money available for other needs.
More detail
The law provides $50 for each day jurors or prospective jurors attend court. This applies to jurors and prospective jurors summoned for jury duty who appear at court. They also receive the higher of mileage at 33 cents per mile for necessary travel or the cost of an adult bus fare to and from court. A person who appears when summoned may receive mileage or bus fare even if excused or exempted from jury service at that person's request. The law takes effect July 1, 2026.
The law sets aside up to $684,385 from state general revenues for the judiciary to carry out its purposes. The money is for the judiciary. The judiciary may spend only the amount needed for the law's purposes, up to the stated limit. The funding is for fiscal year 2026–2027.
