Eligible Adairsville residents could get a city property tax break based on local sales tax proceeds, but lawmakers and voters would first need to approve it.
Eligible residents in the Bartow County special district could get an Adairsville property tax break based on local sales tax proceeds, if lawmakers and voters approve the proposal.
The proposal would exempt part of a qualifying home's assessed value from Adairsville city property taxes. It would cover residents with homestead property in the special district covering Bartow County. It would apply only to Adairsville city taxes on property within the district and would add to other homestead exemptions. The exemption amount would be determined each year based on net proceeds from the local sales tax collected in the special district. The resident or an agent generally would need to apply. A resident already receiving a city homestead exemption for the same home could receive this exemption without a new application if still eligible. The proposal would need a two-thirds vote in each legislative chamber and approval by more than half of voters casting ballots on the question. The required election would be held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November 2026. If approved, the exemption would apply to tax years from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2039.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
