Dublin voters would decide whether eligible homeowners can receive a yearly city tax exemption tied to proceeds from a proposed 1 percent local sales tax.
If approved by voters, eligible homeowners could receive a yearly exemption from Dublin city taxes, based on proceeds from a proposed 1 percent local sales tax. Any value above the exemption would remain taxable.
The proposal would exempt some homestead value from Dublin city taxes, with the exempt amount determined each year using local sales tax proceeds. It would cover a resident's homestead property within the Laurens County special district. Only the part of the property inside the district would qualify. A homeowner must apply, unless they received another Dublin homestead exemption for the same property in the prior tax year and remain eligible. The exemption would be added to other homestead exemptions. Property value above the exempt amount would still be taxed. The ballot describes a new 1 percent local sales tax; the exemption amount would be based on its proceeds. If voters approve the measure, the exemption would apply to tax years beginning January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2039.
