The proposal would give eligible Euharlee homeowners a city tax exemption based on local sales-tax proceeds, if lawmakers and voters approve it.
Euharlee residents could get a city property tax exemption for homes in the Bartow County special district. The amount would depend each year on local sales-tax proceeds.
District voters would decide whether the proposed exemption takes effect in November 2026. More than half of votes cast must favor it.
Euharlee would exempt an amount of eligible homes’ assessed value from city property taxes. It would cover residents of the Bartow County special district for homes located within that district. The exempt amount would be based each year on net proceeds from the local sales tax. Any value above that amount would remain taxable. A person generally must apply. Someone already receiving the city’s homestead exemption for that home in the prior tax year and still eligible would not need to apply again. The exemption would be added to other home tax exemptions and would apply only to Euharlee city taxes. If voters approve the measure, the exemption would apply to tax years beginning January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2039.
Voters in the special district would decide whether the exemption takes effect. Eligible voters are Euharlee voters who live within the Bartow County special district. The measure would also need a two-thirds vote in both the Georgia House and Senate. More than half of votes cast must favor the measure. If voters reject it or the election is not conducted as required, the exemption would not take effect. The city would pay the election costs. The election is set for the Tuesday after the first Monday in November 2026. If approved, the exemption would begin January 1, 2027.
